Hello everyone! Is there anyone still out there? I apologize as i been busy with my newest guppy batch (about 4 months old now!) as well as my Freshwater Angelfish Fry (Eggs were laid about 12 days ago now). So please be patient with me!!
Enough talk! Now it's time for some Q&A!! So. I had some of you send in some questions....it's time for me two answer!! Questions are in bold! Answers are underlined!! ~~~~~~~~ 1) What colors do you breed in Guppies? ~~ As far as colors go, I think there all pretty! My last 4 or 5 batches have had colors ranging from all yellow; red; black; blue in the males to mixed colors such as Yellow and Red; Red and Black; and finally Yellow and Black in both males and females. I also have a month old Delta male I bred. Delta Guppies are just one color such as Red;Blue;Black;Yellow. Delta Guppies have NO patterns on them at all. If you need/want more info let me know! 2)What colors are female Guppies more attracted to, besides them just being bright colors? Are there any specifics? ~~ This is a good question! As far as colors go I've learned that bright colors such as Yellow, and Light Blue (found in Endler's Guppies) work well. For the darker colors, it just happens. Haha! There are no specifics. But I will tell you -in dark AND light colors- the brighter the color; the healthier the guppy which equals a better chance the female will breed with the male. Want/need more info? Post a message and let me know!! 3) What Traits should someone avoid breeding accidentally that can show up in any of these species of fish? ~~ This is another good question. One that I have had numerous times in both my Mollies and Guppies, is a HumpBack. There is no way to prevent this, unless you buy from a professional breeder, who knows the ancestors of the fish didn't have that trait. The Humpback trait just happens sometimes. It is a deformity in the fish's spine. My fish have lived fine with their HumpBacks, and I have a few that even outgrew them! -The spine is now straight so it fixed itself-. As for other traits, I would stay away from aggressive males and females. You don't want any males/females that will grow up being so aggressive that they kill the other fish in your tank. Aggression is something you may be able to break, by isolating your fish for awhile, then re-introducing them into your tank (post here or message me for info on how ). If you don't want to do that, put a lot of foliage- real or artificial plants- in your tank. They will often give the fish a sense of security. Questions? Comments? Post or message me! 4) Do you name your fish? (Just wondering...) ~~ Hahahaha. I like this question! I use to when I had one tank and fish. Now i have over 25 fish (babies not included), and it gets a bit tedious. Now for my species like my Freshwater Angelfish where i only 4 of them, yes. I name them. As for the rest like my guppies where I can have over 40 at a time... ( babies included) well...no. I do name my Adults though. 5) What fish are your favorite breed? ~~ AGH!!! You people make this hard! I swear you do this on purpose.... :/. I honestly can't pick!! I love them all! I think there all pretty! I like my mollies because there cute, and have a lovely personality. I like my guppies because of their colors and patterns, and my Angelfish because of their colors, patterns and bodies! My goldfish are beautiful, because of their personality and looks, and my Betta fish; I like them because of their color and personality as well! I bet your thinking "How can a fish have personality!?" Believe me when i say they can. They interact with each-other and I even have a fish that will let me pet him. Yes pet. I leave it at that. Haha! 6) How big can Angelfish get? ~~ Agh! Again! A Freshwater Angelfish can grow up to 4 inches in length and 8 inches in height. Now. I have two pair. My current breeding pair is large. To help, I measured my hand on a grided cutting table.
